Stewards Comments

RUSSIAN DREAMS was slow to begin. LUCKY TICKET was slow into stride. On jumping SENATE LEASE dipped and then bumped with ZOFF'S DELIGHT. Shortly after the start LUCKY TICKET collided with SEVERED. At the 375m SEVERED bumped with CORNISHMAN. On straightening LUCKY TICKET was held up. Passing 100m CREMENT was blocked behind SEVERED. Jockey Stephen Miller was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SEVERED. He stated that SEVERED had been well-positioned throughout and the gelding had moved forward approaching the 400m and at this stage, he was confidant of victory. However, in the straight the gelding had only battled on and in his opinion, was disappointing. The only feasible explanation that he could offer to the Stewards was that the gelding was still inexperienced, being lightly raced and this may have contributed to the poor performance. Trainer Mr. L. Luciani was also disappointed with the performance, stating that SEVERED, after its last race preparation, had undergone surgery to a knee. He advised the Stewards that it was his intention to have the gelding fully vetted and depending on that report, he would access the future racing plans of SEVERED. An oncourse veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SENATE LEASE lost a near hind plate during running. ZOFF'S DELIGHT returned with a cardiac arrythmia.
