Stewards Comments

RASCAL and OUTER PATCH were slow into stride. STIRLING CHANCE began awkwardly bumping with CENTAGON. In the early stages STIRLING CHANCE raced fiercely. JESTERVILLE and RASCAL bumped at the 575m. When blocked near the 300m, STIRLING CHANCE then attempted a debatable run on the outside of SEATTLE DIAMOND near the 200m. STIRLING CHANCE touched the hindquarters of that gelding and shortly after, itself was crowded by IRISH AIR, which shifted in slightly. This action caused SEATTLE DIAMOND to become unbalanced and eventually restrain from the tiring BAWCSON. STIRLING CHANCE was accidentally struck on the nose by the whip of Jockey P. Carbery ( SEATTLE DIAMOND ) in this incident. Trainer Mr. W. Mitchell was given permission to place a one eyed blinker on IRISH AIR, which lay inwards in the straight. Jockey J. Claite was questioned regarding his riding of OUTER PATCH. He advised that the gelding had a history of pulling hard in races and he had managed to have it settled early in the race. When making ground in the straight, he had picked his run, however had been unable to put OUTER PATCH under pressure when avoiding minor interference.
