Stewards Comments

RUBIC and SPECIAL QUEST were slow into stride. HOOLAGAIN slipped at the start. FIRE SIGN raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey G. Smith explained that after receiving a slight bump near the 1100m, FIRE SIGN was reluctant to stride out and as a result, lost its racing position. Jockey Smith stated that in his opinion, FIRE SIGN would be better suited by racing in blinkers. Trainer Mrs. C. Stelmach was granted permission to race FIRE SIGN in blinkers for future starts. Near the 1000m ROCKET POWER shifted inwards bumping SURE TO RISE causing that gelding to shift inwards and bump ELLA VISTA. SURE TO RISE then raced keenly until passing the 900m. RUBIC raced ungenerously in the early stages and near the 1000m, shifted inwards bumping OUR DASHER and approaching the 900m, mis-strode. FIRE SIGN raced wide at the turn into the straight. SPECIAL QUEST lay inwards over the final 200m. KOOMBANA BAY was impeded for a clear run passing the 100m. RUBIC returned with a laceration to the off knee.
