Stewards Comments

CLUB THUMPER and THE NEIGHBOURHOOD bumped at the start. MAGIC OF KINGSTON was slow into stride. DIAMOND CROWN was held up from on straightening and when taken outwards near the 250m was syeadied ff the heels of FIRE INSURANCE before getting clear and passing the 100m. BLAZING MORN was blocked for a run between the 400m and the 200m. MAGGORO was held up from the 400m. CLUB THUMPER was disappointed for a run from the 300m. CHAINSAW raced wide throughout. Trainer was questioned regarding the improved performance of MAGIC OF KINGSTON today compared to its unplaced run at Kalgoorlie on 8th September, 2001. Stated that the gelding normally raced on the pace, however today the horse had recieved a bump shortly after the startand settled at the rear before running on over the concluding stages. He could offer no other explanation. Was advised that Stewards would expect to see the gelding ridden in a similar manner and that the improved form must be maintained. Trainer and jockey were questioned as to the reason for THE NEIGHBOURHOOD leading today compared to racing in a rearward position at its last start in Kalgoorlie on 8th September, 2001. Jockey stated that at the previous start the gelding had recieved tightening shortly after the start, and had therefore settled in a rearward position. He considered that he would have been obliged to race wider if he had made an endeavour to go forward. Stated that it was his intention to race the gelding in a forward position in future.
