Stewards Comments

BURNZY rider was dislodged en route to the barriers and took an apparent harmless fall. The colt was quickly recaptured and a subsequent Veterinary inspection passed it fit to start. When questioned regarding his handling of the colt, rider advised that he was instructed to position the gelding back in the field. He further advised that he had considered moving forward near the 800m however he would have been obliged to race in a four wide position which he believed was not in his mounts best interest. Consequently he elected to remain in a rearward position until near the 500m and in the straight he had ridden the colt out strongly in a hands and heels style and it made up a significant amount of ground. Trainer confirmed these instructions and stated that he had issued them as the colt was having its first start over this distance and had not performed as well as expected when ridden on the pace at its most recent start at Belmont on 16 June 2007. Stewards accepted the explanation of the rider but he was advised that given the lack of pace in the early and middle stages of this race he had erred by not attempting to improve his position prior to the 600m and was told that in similar circumstances he is expected to demonstrate more initiative in future. IMA KAHN pulled hard in the middle stages. UPGRADE returned having cast its near hind plate during running. DANISH CURRENCY raced ungenerously and wide throughout and was bumped and carried outwards near the 1200m. GREAT DESTINY pulled hard in the middle stages and was eased when continuing to race keenly near the 800m. JUBILATION raced ungenerously in the early stages. NATTY COMPUTER a post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Due to the uncompetitive performance, Trainer was advised to restrict the gelding's future racing to the Provincial or Country areas until it shows an improvement in its form. YOU KNOW IT raced fiercely approaching the 1200m and was then taken outwards and made contact with another runner.
