KEY'S ACE commenced awkwardly, bumped and over-raced having to be steadied near the 1000m. When questioned regarding the gelding racing in a rearward position, rider explained that it was fractious in the barrier prior to the start and as a result commenced slowly and could not be placed in a forward position as instructed. TENPIN held up and steadied shortly after straightening. MR FLOWERS raced wide throughout. Held tight over the final 50m. Rider accidentally dropped his whip passing the 200m. MAJOR KEY slow to begin. Following the uncompetitive performance Trainer was advised that the gelding would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. TOKYO JOE held tight passing the 500m. Crowded and restrained passing the 50m. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with a self inflicted laceration to the near hind pastern. KENANAS blocked over the final 100m. L'ESCAPADE raced wide on straightening. RED MONARCH crowded and bumped when taking a run on straightening and then became unbalanced for several strides and was steadied, losing momentum. Rider explained that after this incident the gelding had failed to run on as expected. Impeded near the 250m. ASSAYER bumped and unbalanced on straightening. PRICE OF LIFE lay outwards considerably over the final 400m. Trainer advised that he would consider making a bit change on the gelding in an attempt to improve its racing manners.
