Stewards Comments

MR YAMAGUCHI when questioned, rider advised that he had been instructed to race forward in a position behind the leaders, however as there was no early pace the gelding had pulled hard and had raced forward. Further, he was conscious of his instructions and decided not to lead and in his opinion this had taken its toll on the gelding's performance. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. NUTTY CLUSO blocked on straightening until passing the 200m. When questioned regarding the riding of the gelding, rider explained that he had been instructed to take up a position in the middle to rear part of the field. Passing the 800m he had considered moving forward, however he was conscious that he would have been obliged to race three-wide and under those circumstances this would not have suited the gelding. He further added that in the straight the gelding had hung inwards. Trainer confirmed these instructions and also produced evidence of substantial support for the gelding today. Trainer advised that the gelding was now at the end of its preparation and it would now be sent for a spell. NORTH AND SOUTH restrained when being steadied at the 1200m. GLASTONBURY TOR the tongue-tie worked loose behind the barrier and required refitting. Commenced awkwardly, throwing its head. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. OAKSVILLE over-raced in the early and middle stages.
