ESCAPE VELOCITY impeded for clear running from on straightening until approaching the 200m. GRANDERAMA when questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that after being slightly crowded near the 1300m his mount commenced to pull hard and as a result he was obliged to shift outwards to a three-deep position near the 1000m. He further explained that as the gelding was obliged to race wide thereon it had taken its toll with his mount commencing to compound prior to straightening. Trainer advised that the gelding would now be sent for spell. HOKI MAK commenced awkwardly getting its head in the air and as a result the near side bubble cheeker was detached and the gelding raced without this gear. Rider reported that the gelding lay inwards under pressure in the straight and as a result he changed the whip to his left hand passing the 150m. WILD OCEAN crowded and eased near the 650m.
