Fifteen of WA's Racing Greats Inducted into Hall of Fame
Last night at the Perth Convention Centre, over 550 people witnessed fifteen legendary WA racing icons inducted into the inaugural West Australian Racing Industry Hall of Fame.
The night hosted by Dennis Cometti was thoroughly enjoyed by all that attended and included the surprise appearance of one of TV’s latest stars in Rachael Beck who stunned the crowd with her rendition of Perhaps Perhaps with racing personality Marty Young.
The night attended by many local and eastern states racing enthusiasts saw one of WA’s greatest ever gallopers in Northerly inducted via the thoroughbred nominee’s along with other greats as Eurythmic and current day champion jockey Damien Oliver.
Legendary horseman Fred Kersley was inducted for his outstanding achievements in the harness racing industry as did 1960’s and 70’s champion horse Mount Eden. From the greyhound nominee’s, champion sprinter Sand’s Me Mum was inducted having amassed the outstanding record of 62 wins from 92 starts.
The fifteen inductees welcomed into the Hall of Fame were:
Thoroughbred Horses – Eurythmic, Northerly
Jockeys – Frank Treen, Damien Oliver
Thoroughbred Trainers – Angus Armanasco, JJ Kelly
Thoroughbred Associates – Sir Ernest Lee Steere
Harness Horses – Mount Eden, Beau Don
Trainer / Drivers – Frank Kersley, Jim Schrader, Phil Coulson, Fred Kersley
Harness Associates – James Brennan
Greyhound – Sandi's Me Mum
