09 May 2011 Thoroughbred Media Release

RWWA Stewards today concluded an inquiry into a report received from the ChemCentre (Perth) in regards to the presence of banned substances in the urine sample submitted by Jockey Alan Kennedy at Pinjarra Park on Sunday, 17 April 2011.

Evidence was taken from Jockey A Kennedy, Principal Investigator Mr Phil O’Reilly and Manager of ChemCentre Mr Charles Russo.
Jockey Kennedy pleaded guilty to charge under ARR.81A(1)(a) for providing a urine sample that was found to contain the banned substances amphetamine and methylamphetamine.

Jockey Kennedy had his licence to ride suspended for a period of six (6) months, effective from 29 April 2011 being the date from which he was stood down from riding. Stewards directed that this penalty may be varied at their discretion following satisfactory completion of drug and alcohol counselling, the provision of a clear urine sample and progress reports.

In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the following factors:
 - Guilty plea and level of remorse
 - No prior offences under the drug rules
 - Seriousness of the offence
 - Honest and forthright manner
