Perth Racing today announced their intention to work with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club to support and leverage their carnival.
Perth Racing will now race on Sunday 18th September, allowing Kalgoorlie the opportunity to run the Kalgoorlie Cup as a stand alone meeting in Western Australia.
“Over the past six months Perth Racing has been working with industry partners and stakeholders to consolidate the best interests for the Western Australian thoroughbred racing industry.” Commented Michael Heath Chief Executive of Perth Racing
“The Committee of Perth Racing recognise the need to leverage thoroughbred racing across the state to ensure the best return in a very competitive and challenging entertainment and wagering environment.”
Perth Racing will now host two Sunday race meetings Sunday 18th September and Sunday 2 October. The second date avoids competition with the AFL Grand Final. Both events will be promoted and themed as “Sunday Jazz at the Races” , offering the community free entry; 8 race program; quality jazz; wine tastings and cheese stall.

“The cooperation of all industry partners is appreciated including Perth Racing; Northam Race Club and Racing Wagering WA” Stephen Young – Chairman Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club
“In segmenting the two prime race meetings owners; trainers and jockeys will have the opportunity to participate in both fixtures and create greater wagering opportunities over the September weekend.” David Hunter – Racing & Wagering WA.
