Erythropoietin

Erythropoietin (EPO) is a Prohibited Substance. It is a restricted human drug and there is no legitimate place for the use of EPO in racing animals. Benefits from EPO have been reported in human endurance events. Despite that, human EPO is unlikely to assist performance in animals and, paradoxically, has been shown to cause severe side-effects in some animals.
