16 February 2012 Enhanced Security and Integrity Measures

RWWA Stewards advise that arrangements have been put in place for enhanced security and integrity measures for the duration of the V75 Inter Dominion Carnival being held at Gloucester Park between 17 February 2012, culminating in the Finals on Friday 2nd March, including high levels of pre and post race swabbing.

These arrangements have this week included RWWA officials and Veterinarian attending the stables of all 36 runners engaged for the series for the purpose of conducting out of competition testing, inspecting runners, stable security measures and ensuring compliance with all rules and standards. Samples for analysis of substances prohibited under Rule 190A have been obtained from all runners and conveyed to the ChemCentre (WA) for out of competition testing. All runners have been reported by the RWWA Veterinarian as being in good order with no issues arising.

During the 12 heats to be contested over three race dates, all runners will be subject to pre-race sampling with additional post race sampling also to apply. As the Stewards intend to take a large number of samples for the duration of the series, with the co-operation of Gloucester Park, two veterinarians will be on duty in addition to the RWWA Industry Veterinarian who will also be in attendance.

Security Guards will also be in place for all runners engaged in the Final on 2 March 2012 as from 8.00am up to presentation on course. Upon arrival on course all runners in the Final and Consolation will be subjected to pre-race sampling with increased post-race sampling to also be conducted.

Samples taken from runners during the series will, at the direction of the Stewards also be made subject to long-term storage by the ChemCentre for future analysis or resubmitted for testing at a later time.

Stewards will continue to attend stables at varying times throughout the series. An increased number of Stewards and RWWA Investigators will also be present to ensure high standards in all matters and the successful running of the series.
