24 May 2012 Miata On Target For World's Richest Greyhound Staying Event

Champion Western Australian greyhound Miata is on target to claim the world’s richest staying event, the $145,000 Group 1 RSN Sandown Cup (715m) in Melbourne tonight.

Miata, a winner of 24 races from 27 starts including the past 15 in succession, qualified for tonight’s feature with an awesome heat win last week.

The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz stormed to a stunning 8.25 length win in a phenomenal track record time of 41.17 seconds.

The previous record was held by Victorian chaser Lady Arko who ran 41.54 seconds.

Miata’s win was 20 lengths faster than the time she recorded on the rain affected track two weeks earlier in the Lizrene.

Trainer Paul Stuart said earlier on Racing Radio with David Shorte and Wes Cameron that Miata was spot on for her engagement tonight.

“She pulled up a treat from last week’s win and 10 minutes after the race you wouldn’t even have known she had gone around,” Stuart said.

“She is right on target.”
