Twenty year old Aiden De Campo took out a heat of the NSW Rising Stars series at Parkes last night with the $4.20 favourite Cruisin Carl which beat No Ah Jack and Repleto.
De Campo finished last in the opening heat of the Series held at Menangle on Tuesday behind the $18.70 chance Ima Collina.
Cruisin Carl is trained by Bernie Hewitt who drove in the 1989 Inter Dominion behind Nikalong Shadow which was trained by his father Tom Hewitt.
Last night’s runner-up No Ah Jack was driven by Bernie Hewitt’s nephew Sam Hewitt who is currently leading the series.
Sam Hewitt is the regular driver of Cruisin Carl.
A further two heats of the New South Wales Rising Stars Series will be held at Penrith tonight.
Aiden De Campo will maintain the WA link with his second drive tonight behind Shay De Rayne for trainer Trevor Munday.
Trevor Munday took out the 2004 Australasian Young Drivers Championship held in Perth winning a double at Northam on March 23rd for trainer Grant Williams and also landed a 20/1 winner at Bunbury the following night for trainer Barry Anthony.
That particular night at Bunbury, Aiden De Campo’s father Andrew drove a winning treble.
