Winning streaks go on the line when Dollstan Cruise and Boss Coin clash in the Companion Animal Services Mixed Stake 3 / 4 (530m) at Greyhounds WA Cannington on Wednesday night.
Dollstan Cruise has won his past four starts for Wanneroo trainer Stephen Richards while the up-and-coming Boss Coin has launched his career with four wins from seven attempts, including his past three in a row.
The contest between the two chasers represents a contrast in styles.
Boss Coin has the edge in early speed while Dollstan Cruise has the experience and is stronger at the finish.
Adding intrigue to the race is that fact that a possible spoiler looms in the shape of Never Too Many.
Never Too Many is racing consistently and has the advantage of the rails alley.
Dollstan Cruise heads into the race on the back of a short spell and his trainer believes the greyhound is primed to take on all comers.
"We just gave him a few weeks off to clear any little niggling problems because he'd been racing on a heavy track and had four or five hard runs in row,"Stephens said.
"He's freshened up now and ready to go."
Even though Dollstan Cruise's most recent success has come in 642m events, most notably in the Paradise Street Trophy at the start of the month, Richards is confident the greyhound will be more than competitive over the sprinter's trip.
"He's actually done most of his racing over 530m and even though we'll step him up to the 600 again soon I think he's a pretty good dog over any distance because he's such a tenacious chaser,"he said.
"He's not likely to lead against these chasers so I just hope that he's sitting handily as they go down the back straight, only a length or so off them, because he'll be coming home with plenty of strength in his legs."
The race is scheduled to commence at 7.45pm.
