Trainer Kylie McLennan is "quietly confident"that Roxy Mac can cause an upset in the Group 2 SOLO WA Oaks (530m) at Cannington this Saturday.
While conceding that in-form chaser Duetronium deserves to start favourite, McLennan declared that her greyhound deserves to be considered.
"I think Roxy Mac is definitely a smokey because she's got the experience and is proven in big races,"McLennan said.
Deutronium is the fastest qualifier following an eye-catching run of 30.21 during her heat and from box one in the final she will be at short odds to become the first greyhound to complete the Mandurah Oaks-WA Oaks double.
With three feature race wins to her name already this year Roxy Mac has provided a dream introduction to the training game for McLennan, who has only been running a kennel for around 12 months.
The tenacious blue bitch claimed her spot in the Oaks final when she won her heat in 30.81.
"I was pleased with her run even though the time wasn't great,"McLennan said.
"She didn't have it all her own way and she had to work hard to win."
McLennan believes that Roxy Mac can start well from her wide draw on Saturday night.
"Roxy really needs to jump because she won't want to give the likes of Deutronium too much of a head start but if she can stick with them she'll be running home very strongly,"she said.
"We've done everything to make her right for the race so hopefully she'll show us her best."
