20 July 2012 Pateman To Continue Carnarvon Dominance

Noel Pateman has been the dominant performer at Carnarvon this season and is well placed to continue his winning form with a strong team of runners engaged for Saturday's meeting.

Headlining the Pateman team will be track specialist Makeushappy and consistent gelding El Tegra who are currently placed first and second respectively in Carnarvon Horse of the Year Honours.

Makeushappy, a four-year-old gelding by Happy Giggle, hasn't missed a beat this campaign with four wins and one placing from five starts.

Makeushappy, to be ridden by experienced jockey Andrew Masters, will be chasing a quartet of wins in the Glenn Gregory Handicap (1000m).

El Tegra's form is also hard to fault with dominant wins at his past two outings and he is certain to attract solid support in the Barry Evans Handicap (1600m).

The More Than Ready gelding was courageous last-start when trapped wide throughout but toughed it out to win by a comfortable 2 ½ lengths.

El Tegra will be forced to carry the top weight of 63.5kg for Masters but this is a drop in class and the five-year-old should be too strong once again.

Stable mate Faslight returned to something like his best form when he attempted to lead all the way over 1400m before going down to Like A Vain by a half-head last fortnight.

The son of Fasliyev bounced back after finishing fifth of ninth and nine lengths from stable mate Neverbeenworse.

His prior form was solid with two wins and two placing from four starts and with the right run from barrier seven he can play a part in the Stu Maver Handicap (1500m).

One of the main dangers will be Desabelle who has only missed the money once in four starts and looks a nice type for trainer Peter Daly.

Her first run at the track a fortnight ago was full of merit when she chased home Tozzi over 1200m and the extra 300m should be to her liking.

Zach Tyler's Separe Levent has yet to win a race in 19 starts and you will have to take on trust when he contests the Caravan One Mile Jetty Maiden over 1400m.

But his recent form indicates he is knocking on the door of victory with second placings from his previous three starts including a good effort behind Blue Violet on July 8.

A repeat performance from Blue Violet and she will be hard to toss in the Speed Mitchell Handicap (1200m).
