RWWA Stewards today conducted an inquiry into a report from the Racing Chemistry Laboratory in Perth, that the pre-race blood sample taken from the seven year old gelding CLASS MATE prior to it competing and finishing unplaced in Race 6 The William & May Sheridan Memorial (Sky) (2609m) at Pinjarra Monday, 28 July 2008 had a level of total carbon dioxide (TCO2) in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma.

This finding has been verified by the Racing Analytical Services Laboratory in Victoria.

Evidence was taken from Owner and Trainer of the gelding Mr Jon Gavin, Veterinarian Dr. Tim Mather, Racing Chemistry Laboratory Manager Mr Charles Russo and RWWA Investigator Mr Geoff Johnson.

The inquiry was adjourned until Wednesday, 20 August 2008 at 2.00pm at the RWWA Stewards Room Ascot Racecourse to allow for further veterinary evidence.
