29 December 2008 2009 BMW Perth Cup

Former Kiwi stayer The Fuzz looks set to give the Hayes family their first BMW-Perth Cup
(2400m) win when he lines up in the time-honoured Group 2 feature at Ascot on New Year’s
Day.

Champion trainer David Hayes along with his late father Colin and late brother Peter have been
crossing the Nullarbor from the world famous Lindsay Park Stud (Agnaston, South Australia)
for over 30 years but are yet to lead in a Perth Cup winner.

The Fuzz produced an outstanding Perth Cup trial when a closing third behind Gilded Venom
(after racing three-wide throughout) in the Group 2 C.B. Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot on
Wednesday December 17.

The six-year-old son of Danasinga’s Cox Stakes performance was so impressive his Perth Cup
price was slashed from $16 to $6.50 immediately following the race. The Fuzz is now a $3.40
race favourite.

Brad Rawiller, who won the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday
December 6 aboard the Hayes-trained Niconero, piloted The Fuzz in the Cox Stakes and was
today confirmed as his Perth Cup rider.

The Fuzz won two races from seven starts in New Zealand before transferring to the Hayes
stable in early 2007 and has since registered feature-race triumphs in the 2007 Group 3
Geelong Cup (2400m) at Geelong and the 2008 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at
Flemington.
