11 February 2009 Support Victorian Horse Owners

The Western Australian Horse Council is co-coordinating the collection of relevant equipment and supplies for the owners of horses who have suffered in the recent bushfires. We are liaising with Dr Cameron Bell, Planning Manager Statewide Recovery Team from DPI Victoria.

Apart from the tragic loss of human life, thousands of people are trying to cope with the loss of their horses, pets and livestock, and many are facing the almost impossible task of caring for injured animals in places where infrastructure and necessary, everyday tack and equipment has been totally destroyed. For these people, the task of rebuilding must seem an almost impossible one.

We can help these people with donations of new and used horse gear and equipment: halters, lead-ropes, rugs, bandages, bridles, saddles, buckets, feed bins, etc.

Please make sure that all equipment is clean, the inside of rugs, saddle cloths etc are brushed free of soil, weeds and seeds in order to comply with the DPI'S and DAFWA'S biosecurity regulations. Please make sure to tie up rugs, put halters, lead-ropes etc in plastic bags for easier handling and packing. Any gear or equipment not used, will be sold and the proceeds placed in the Victorian Bushfire Fund.
