16 October 2007 Pinjarra Park Transfer of Race Dates

Since March 2007 Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has been overseeing Stage 3 of the redevelopment of Pinjarra Park. These major works have seen the track widened and re-cambered with the entire 1900m circumference completely re-grassed in June.

Monthly inspections of the new surface have taken place since the laying of kikuyu stolons, the latest being last Friday with representatives of the Project team, Club, Grass Contractors, Stewards, Jockeys and Trainers.

Whilst monitoring will continue at monthly intervals it has been recognised that the Pinjarra track surface must be allowed to consolidate during the forthcoming summer growing season. As the result of a meeting yesterday of the RWWA Operations Committee, a recommendation to transfer racing dates in the new year from Pinjarra to Ascot, Bunbury and York has been approved.

These changes involve moving existing calendar fixtures for Bunbury Turf club to provide a better spread between its race meetings. The amendments are as follows:

Sunday 6 January 2008 Bunbury
Wednesday 9 January 2008 (Previously Bunbury) Ascot (Prov. Class)
Thursday 17 January 2008 Ascot (Prov. Class)
Thursday 24 January 2008 Bunbury
Sunday 3 February 2008 Bunbury
Thursday 14 February 2008 York
Sunday 24 February 2008 Bunbury
Wednesday 27 February 2008 Ascot (Prov. Class)

A decision on whether each meeting will be run as a Pinjarra Race Club meeting at another venue or the meetings simply transferred to the host club, will be decided after consultation with the relevant Clubs involved.

The Pinjarra Race Club has further requested that the running of the Chaff City Classic (LR) and Pinjarra Cup (LR) be deferred from the usual timing in late February/early March to maximise the opportunity for these races to be conducted at the Pinjarra Park venue, when Pinjarra resumes racing. RWWA will review options with the club to achieve this outcome after its next scheduled monthly inspection in mid-November, after further assessment of the progress.
