28 October 2009 Stewards’ Inquiry – Greyhounds

RWWA Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding a visit by an RSPCA Inspector and RWWA Stewards at the property of Owner Trainer Ms J M (Jen) Thompson.

Evidence was taken from Owner/Trainer Ms J M Thompson, Owner/Attendant Ms L Nelson and an RSPCA Inspector.
Owner/ Trainer Ms J M Thompson was found guilty under Rule 86 (q) for engaging in aggressive and threatening conduct towards an RSPCA Inspector during the lawful performance of his duties, which is an act detrimental to the image of greyhound Racing.

In considering penalty the Stewards took into account the following:

  • The circumstances and seriousness of the offence.
  • Ms Thompson’s personal circumstances.
  • The detrimental effect on the industry as a result of Ms Thompson’s actions towards Mr Douse.
  • Undertakings from Ms Thompson that she will not re offend.
  • The good condition of greyhounds under Ms Thompson’s care as found by Stewards and RSPCA Inspector.
  • This being Ms Thompson’s first offence.

Ms Thompson was fined $2000.00. Acting under the provisions of Rule 99 (3), Stewards have further determined to suspend $1000.00 for a period of 12 months on the condition that Ms Thompson will not offend against any other rules, under Rule 86 of the RWWA Rules of Greyhound Racing.
