What is a ClubTAB?

As the name implies, a ClubTAB is a TAB in a licensed area of a Club.

The betting terminal is positioned on the bar and is operated by bar staff.  However, it may be necessary to provide dedicated staff for two to three hours on a Friday and up to seven hours on a Saturday.

How much will I earn?

This is up to you  - the amount of commission paid is directly related to sales.

Of course, as well as the actual commission paid, there is the potential spin-off on your bar sales.  A customer is likely to stay at your Club longer if he is entertained.

What hours should the ClubTAB be open?

You are required to provide a TAB service during the Club's opening hours when the TAB is on-line.

For special events, such as the Melbourne Cup, you are expected to open in accordance with official TAB hours.

What about SKY Channel?

Should an agreement be reached for the establishment of a TAB Wagering service, it would be necessary to install Sky Channel if not already connected.  Your Territory Manager is able to provide details of this service.

What does the TAB supply?

• Racelists, brochures, tickets, pens, point of sale material, terminal maintenance.
• Two copies of the TAB's form newspaper, "TABform", issued Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
• Marking benches, wallboards, notice boards, ticket boxes, brochure holders, terminals and telecommunication lines.
• Signage  - static and/or illuminated signage on your premises and/or existing pylon signs.

What do I have to supply?

• A minimum of two televisions are required (i.e., one for Teletext and one for Racing Vision, but more are preferable) to display TAB provisional dividends and a radio for the reception of Racing Radio or your local station.
• Installation, near the agency terminal, of a dedicated telephone line.  This is needed to protect you, so you can contact Head Office immediately for operational assistance.
• Installation of the necessary electrical circuits, we will advise you where these should be.
• At least one copy of "The West Australian" newspaper provided daily for form information.
• Adequate working capital (estimate $1,000 to $1,500).  Your existing insurance policies would need to be reviewed to cover the TAB operation, i.e. workers' compensation, theft, public liability, etc.
• A $5,000 cash bond or a bank guarantee.  This is to cover matters such as settlement default, TAB property damage and failure to advise of change of ownership.  A cash bond will accrue interest at the current bank rate and will be paid to you at half yearly intervals.

What information does the TAB require?

If both parties decide to proceed further with a ClubTAB, you will need to supply:

• A plan to scale of your bars with the position of power points, telephones, beer taps and sinks marked so the best place for the selling terminal can be selected.
• A minimum of 3.6m of wall space is required for the race list display wallboards.

What about staff training?

An administration and training fee of $550 (GST inclusive) will be required by the TAB prior to commencement.

The training component of the fee covers attendance by the licensee/manager and two members of staff at our Barrack Street Training School for a three day course scheduled by the TAB prior to the commencement date. It will then be your responsibility to ensure sufficient back up staff are able to operate the agency as and when required.

The TAB runs regular training schools and additional staff are welcome to attend for a fee of $165 (GST Inclusive).

Am I locked into a long-term contract?

No.  The agreement can be terminated at any time by one month's written notice from the agent (licensed Club) or one month's written notice from the TAB.
