23 November 2009 Stewards’ Inquiry – Greyhounds

RWWA Stewards concluded an inquiry today into a report from the Chem Centre in Perth, that the post race urine sample taken from the greyhound MAJESTIC MOMENT after it won Race 2 at Northam on Monday, 5th October 2009 contained the prohibited substance heptaminol.

Evidence was taken from Trainer Mr Clifford R Collard, Racing Chemist, Mr James White and RWWA Industry Veterinarian Dr. Peter Symonds.

Trainer Mr Collard was found guilty under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (2)(a) for nominating and presenting MAJESTIC MOMENT to compete in Race 1 at Mandurah Greyhounds on the 17th November 2008 not free of the drug heptaminol.

In considering penalty the Stewards took into account the following:

  • The seriousness of the offence.
  • The expert evidence of Dr Symons and Mr White.
  • Mr Collard’s co-operative conduct during the Inquiry.
  • The circumstances of the offence.
  • This being Mr Collard’s third drug related offence.

Mr C R Collard was disqualified for a period of two (2) years effective immediately.

Acting under the provisions of Greyhound Racing Rule 83(4) MAJESTIC MOMENT was disqualified as the winner of Race 2, the Morby Cottage Shamrock Stake Grade 5, over (297m) Monday, 5th October 2009 and the placings have been amended to read:

1st CADEL (J Thompson)
2nd DIGGERS CHICK (M Stewart)
3rd IN THE RUNNING (P Worthington)
4th REGAL FLAME (N Goldsworthy)

The Stake money of $500 was ordered to be returned to the offices of RWWA.
