RWWA is not involved with the initial advertising of agencies for sale. The main avenues for advertising, for agents who wish to sell, are the “Business Opportunities” section of the West Australian newspaper and through Business Brokers.
The prospective purchaser is required to attend an information session prior to signing a contract of sale. An appointment can be made with the Retail Administration Officer to make a reservation for attendance at this session.
After a purchaser has made the decision to proceed with the procurement of an agency licence, all parties must complete an Application for Assignment. Amongst other items of documentation, the application is forwarded to RWWA for consideration of the prospective purchaser as a future agent.
On receipt of all necessary documentation, RWWA then invites the applicant(s) to an interview to assess their suitability as an agent.
Applicants should possess skills and strengths such as appropriate personal attributes, customer service and marketing abilities as well as sound financial competence and suitability to operate a small business within a competitive environment.
The applicant should be able to demonstrate experience and competence in various aspects of managing a business. Some skills, experience and aspects of an application that will be considered are as follows:
Prior to attending the TAB Training Course, the applicant is required to complete at least eighty hours of basic training in the agency to be purchased. This will ensure that each applicant will have a good working knowledge of running an agency and will help with completing the training course. It is also seen as an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss possible future plans with future partners.
To ensure the applicant obtains a full understanding of what the TAB as a business is about, they will be required to complete a full shift on both a Friday and Saturday in the agency to be purchased (as part of the 80 hours).
The course is made up of a number of training modules that the applicant completes and is assessed on. During the course the applicant will attend a TAB Managed Agency for further basic training that culminates in a two-day assessment in a live environment at the end of the two weeks (usually a Friday and Saturday).
By this stage, the prospective agent will be required to perform all duties necessary to efficiently and effectively operate a TAB agency.
A tentative assignment date is set by RWWA at the time of the provisional assignment approval and will usually be two weeks after the completion of the training course.
This two-week period allows RWWA to review the training course results and live environment assessment. It also allows time for the relevant assignment documents to be completed by our solicitors.
Once all the required results are to hand and provided all areas of assessment have been completed to RWWA’s satisfaction, a letter of appointment and assignment documents are sent to the applicant.
Once the assignment documents have been returned to RWWA, they are duly executed and a copy returned to the new agent.
