24 November 2009 De Campo moves to early lead in $30,000 RWWA Country Cups Series

Capel trainer Andrew De Campo has moved to an early lead in the RWWA $30,000 Country Cups Series courtesy of the win of Aliveandwell and third placing of Mach Ruler in last Saturday night’s Bunbury Cup.

De Campo has 28 points in the $6000 Trainers Award and leads from Terry Atkins and Ryan Bell with 17 points apiece.

Aliveandwell has joined the Narrogin Cup winner Schinzig Buller and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cup winner Blissful Snag on 17 points as joint leaders in the $6000 Leading Horse Award.

With a win at Kalgoorlie and second placing in the Narrogin Cup the 2009 $30,000 Country Cups winner Aldo Cortopassi has 31 points in the 2010 Award and leads from Ryan Bell and Kade Howson who each have 17 points.

The next leg of the RWWA $30,000 Country Cups Series will be the Northam Cup on January 16th.

Hall’s new Perth winner a full-brother to super trotter

Hazelmere trainer Gary Hall produced former Victorian pacer Coalmine Creek for an impressive first-up win in WA at yesterday’s Gloucester Park meeting.

Coalmine Creek, a five-year-old by Safely Kept from Poetry, is a full-brother to former champion trotting mare La Coocaracha which won 23 races and more than $428,911 in stakes before her retirement to stud. Coalmine Creek is also a half-brother to slick pacer Blake Castle which has won 43 races and $265,498 in Australia and the USA.

La Coocaracha remains one of the worst names given to a horse in Australia as the English translation of the word is cockroach and she most certainly wasn’t the equine equivalent of that.

Those who follow Byford Trial form were well rewarded yesterday when Coalmine Creek paid $3.80 for the win after an impressive trial win at Byford on November 15th.
