RWWA Stewards today concluded the inquiry into a report from the ChemCentre in Perth, that aminocaproic acid had been detected in the post race urine sample taken from NEIGE after it had won Race 3 the Westspeed Stayers’ Bonus Handicap (2) at Belmont on Saturday 5 September 2009.

Further evidence was taken from Mr Sean Casey, Trainer of NEIGE, Dr Kim Rose Veterinary Surgeon, Mr Paul Matters (Advisor for Mr Casey) and Racing RWWA Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd. Evidence was also taken via teleconference from Dr T. Mogg (Senior Lecturer in Equine Medicine-NSW), Dr L. Rozen (Haematologist-NSW) and Dr R. Lloyd (Veterinarian-NSW).

Trainer Mr S Casey pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.175(h)(ii) for administering the product Amicar to NEIGE with aminocaproic acid being detected in the post race urine sample taken from the gelding.

In consideration of penalty the Stewards took into account:

  • Mr Casey’s guilty plea
  • Mr Casey’s record – this being his second prohibited substance charge
  • The seriousness of this matter
  • Mr Casey’s personal circumstances

Trainer Mr Casey was disqualified for a period of five (5) months.

Acting under the provisions of ARR.177 NEIGE was disqualified as winner of Race 3 the Westspeed Stayers’ Bonus Handicap (2) at Belmont on Saturday 5 September 2009 and the placings were amended to:

1st COLLECTING (P. King)
2nd BELLS AWAY (S. McGruddy)
3rd MIDTIME (C. Harvey)
4th DANACOLADA (NZ) (S. Parnham)
5th MAGIC PHOENIX (C. Chatfield)
