Claims information

Any incident should be reported to officials/stewards (for race track incidents only) and details recorded including names and contact details of witnesses and any other information that may be relevant should a claim be made against the trainer.

All claims should be forwarded to the RWWA Insurance Officer.

The following insurance cover needs to be arranged by the trainer:

Trainer Workers Compensation

This cover is for employees of the trainer e.g. trackwork riders, stablehands, strappers. All trainers who employ staff are required to take out a policy for workers compensation, even if the employee is paid a minimal wage.

A policy is required to be in place and a group certificate should be issued to the employee.

Insurance cover arranged by RWWA is as follows:

Trainer Public Liability / Professional Indemnity

This policy covers licensed racehorse trainers and all activities incidental thereto which include, but are not limited to, property owning and occupying, agistment and breeding.

    Cover is compulsory.

Policy details - This is a national policy and was implemented by the Australian Trainers' Association. The premium is paid up front by RWWA and is recouped from Trainers via the annual licence fee.
