Agriculture and Food Minister Kim Chance announced today that Western Australia was set to allow the movement of horses from States that are free of equine influenza (EI) under strict conditions.
The new border restrictions will be effective from Tuesday, 25 September 2007.
He said horses from New South Wales and Queensland, where equine influenza has been detected, were not permitted into Western Australia.
Horses from non-infected States (Vic., S.A., Tas., N.T.) and New Zealand, having met a number of criteria, will now be allowed into Western Australia under permit from the Department of Agriculture and Food.
This will include an application for entry to WA and relevant permits, a period of isolation from any other horses and a veterinary inspection prior to loading for transport.
Information on applying for permits to move horses into WA will be available from the Department of Agriculture and Food website http://www.agric.wa.gov.au/.
