RWWA Stewards today continued an inquiry into the reason for IMA ROCKET STAR NZ (Colin Brown) being able to take up a position in the one wide line in advance of OUR MERCURIO NZ (Chris Lewis) racing towards the back straight on the first occasion in Race 6 the McInerney Ford 4YO Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park on Friday, 15 January 2010.
Mr Chris Lewis had previously pleaded not guilty to a charge under HRR 149(2a) which states:
“A driver shall not drive in a manner which in the opinion of the stewards is unacceptable.”
Today Driver Mr Lewis called former reinsperson Mr Fred Kersley and Trainer/Driver Mr Shane Loone.
Mr Loone tabled a Statutory Declaration and gave evidence alleging Deputy Chief Steward Mr Carl Coady made inappropriate remarks to him regarding this current inquiry. This allegation was vehemently denied by Mr Coady. Mr Coady volunteered under the circumstances to stand down from the inquiry.
After due consideration the Stewards directed that in the interests of natural justice Mr Coady retire from the Panel in relation to this inquiry.
The inquiry was adjourned and will resume at 2.00pm on Wednesday, 10 March 2010.
