Stewards today concluded the adjourned inquiry into the riding and handling of IMPACT RATING (S. Sheehy) in Race 4, the Fruit & Veg Sprint over 1300m at Mount Barker Turf Club on Tuesday, 16 February 2010.
Further evidence was taken from Jockey S. Sheehy.
Jockey Sheehy was subsequently found guilty to a charge under A.R 135 (b) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the running of the above race to ensure that IMPACT RATING was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field in that his riding of the gelding between the 250m and 100m lacked vigour, urgency and purpose.
Consequently, Jockey Sheehy was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight (8) weeks to commence from midnight 7 March 2010 and to expire at midnight 2 May 2010. In assessing the penalty Stewards took into account the serious nature of the offence, Jockey Sheehy’s personal circumstances and his prior good record.
