RWWA Stewards today inquired into a report from the ChemCentre in Perth, that the pre-race blood sample taken from DISCO GEMINI prior to it competing and winning Race 1 the Schweppes 2 Year Old Pace (1730m) at Gloucester Park on Saturday, 22 May 2010, had a level of total carbon dioxide (TCO2) in excess of 36.0 mmoles/L in plasma.

This finding has been verified by the Racing Analytical Services Laboratory in Victoria.

Evidence was taken from Mr Ross Ashby Trainer of DISCO GEMINI, Managing Owner Mr John Alwcock, RWWA Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd, ChemCentre Manager Mr Charles Russo and RWWA Investigator Mr Geoff Johnson.

Trainer Mr Ashby pleaded guilty to a charge under HRR 190(1) for presenting DISCO GEMINI to race at Gloucester Park on Saturday, 22 May 2010 with a level of TCO2 in excess of 36.0 mmoles/L in plasma.

Trainer Mr R Ashby was disqualified for a period of 6 months effective immediately.

Acting under the provisions of HRR 195 DISCO GEMINI was disqualified as the winner of Race 1 the Schweppes 2 Year Old Pace (1730m) and the placings amended to read:

 

1st   SWEET CHARLIE (G Richards) 
2nd  MULTIBET NZ (S Suvaljko)
3rd  SIENNA (C Brown)
4th  LYNX LEGACY (R Bell)
5th   JUST MONTY (J Wegner)
