RWWA Stewards today concluded the Inquiry into a report received from Western Diagnostic Pathology (WDP) that the urine sample taken from Apprentice C. Chatfield at the Lark Hill Trials on Monday, 22 November 2010 was found upon analysis to contain Amphetamine, a banned substance listed under ARR.81B.
Evidence was taken from Ms Chatfield, her Host Trainer Mr D. Casey, Mr R. Wardrop, Chief Scientist (WDP), Mr M. Millington, Legal Representative for Ms Chatfield and Principal Investigator, Mr P. O’Reilly.
Mr Wardrop stated in evidence that in all likelihood the source of this banned substance may have been derived from Dexamphetamine.
Ms Chatfield pleaded guilty to charge under ARR.81A(1)(a) for providing a urine sample at the Lark Hill Trials on Monday, 22 November 2010 that was found to contain the banned substance Amphetamine.
Ms Chatfield subsequently had her permit to ride suspended for a period of six months, effective from 24 November 2010 being the date from which she was stood down from riding. Stewards directed that this penalty may be varied at their discretion following satisfactory completion of drug and alcohol counselling, the provision of a clear urine sample and progress reports from her Host Trainer.
In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the following factors:
- Guilty plea and level of remorse
- No prior offences under the drug rules
- Seriousness of the offence
