15 August 2011 Successful Broome Season Draws To A Close

The Broome racing season drew to a successful close last Saturday with veteran gelding Viscount Cameron taking out the feature event: the $80,000 XXXX Gold Broome Cup (2200m).
Viscount Cameron, prepared by Angela Smith and ridden by Peter Hall, defeated Henry Joseph by one length with Pentire Point a further five lengths back in third place,
Viscount Cameron, a ten-year-old gelding who started at $16.50, had finished third on two previous occasions in 2008 and 2009.
For Hall, it was his fifth win in the staying feature after earlier success on Great Destiny (2008), Key To Cash (2003), Tango Man (2002), and Davenport Tryst (2000m).
The $40,000 Carpet Paint & Tile Centre-Broome Sprint (1300m) was won by Liquidation who easily accounted for Prince Of Silk and race favourite Ibsen.
Liquidation, who was racing first-up since being placed second to boom mare Power Princess in the Northam Sprint, gave jockey Yannick Valenti his biggest win in the saddle.
Ibsen, who commenced a dominant $1.80 favourite, was chasing his fifth win in succession.
Seachanger clinched Horse of the Season honours after taking out the $20,000 Linneys Pearl Classic (1300m).
The four-year-old was ridden by Peter Hall who captured the second-leg of a riding treble.
Seachanger ended the season on four wins and three placings from seven appearances.
Kristy Casey took out the Leading Trainer title with 62 points and finished 10 clear of her nearest rival Dave Casey.
Tom Pike was making late ground with a double in the first two races of the programme and was one behind in third place.
Nathan Stanley‘s fine season was rewarded with victory in the Leading Jockey award.
A season-ending double extended Stanley’s tally to 66 points with Stephen Ridler next best on 40 and three clear of Valenti.
