The initial meeting to discuss the development of a trotting club in Bunbury occurred in 1951 when three people from Boyanup, N.R (Snowy) Payne Capel Shire President, Harry Leviston and Bob Meotti met with Bunbury Mayer Percy Payne, (brother to Snowy Payne) and secured the lease of an adequate area of land from reserve 670. The land sloped from a mound to a wet land. The land was filled and drained and then a half mile track was built. Some funds were secured from a self supporting loan fom the council but mostly the work was done by the members.
Racing commenced in late 1952 with a 6 race programme, all standing starts with 14 starters per race. 16 Bookmakers and a large crowd attended.
Since then the Club has gone from strength to strength with a new track modelled on the Solvalla track, the best in the world. The new stalls actually make it better than solvable. Stakes have gone from 50 pounds to 5000 dollars and the economy of the city is enhanced by the top trainers who live here and attract top horses.
