Select one runner to win the first 'Double' leg and one runner to win the second.
You can take multiple selections in one or both legs to increase your chances.
Multiply the number of selections in the first leg by the number of selections in the second leg. Finally, multiply that number by the dollar amount invested. For example, if you selected 2 or 3 to win the first leg, and 6, 8 or 10 to win the second leg for a bet value of $2, the calculations would be:
| No. of 1st leg selections | No. of 2nd leg selections | Number of combinations | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | x | 3 | = | 6 |
Now take the number of combinations and multiply it by the bet value.
| No. of combinations | Bet value | Cost of bet | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | x | $2 | = | $12 |
The 'Double' races on each meeting will be nominated by the TAB and are clearly identified in TAB agencies.
Extra Doubles are available on nominated Sydney and Melbourne races. Perth races have race to race doubles i.e. running doubles.
If any of the runners in your bet have been scratched, your scratched runner(s) will be replaced by the substitute runner (SB). The substitute declared in each leg of the double is the runner, in that leg, with the greatest value of win bets invested on it. This is why there are no refunds on scratchings with Doubles. The substitute is announced by the TAB just after the start of each leg. You may even select the substitute (SB) in one or both legs of your Double bet.
If the first leg of the 'Double' races is abandoned or postponed, all Double investments will be refunded. If the second leg race is abandoned or postponed after the first leg of the Double has been run, a special Double dividend will be declared for those who selected the winner of the first leg.
If the Double is not correctly selected, the net Double pool on that meeting will be carried over and added to the Double pool on another meeting to be announced by the TAB.
A commission rate of 20% is deducted from gross investments. Double is a non-combined pool.
Dead heats in either the first, second or both legs of the Double will result in more than one winning combination. As per standard dead heat rules, in the event of there being two dividends paid out on the same bet type, returns are calculated at 50% of the full dividend.
