There are a multitude of genuine contenders in the Summer Chase Final (642m) at Cannington on Saturday night but only one can lay claim to the status of leading candidate: Vote For Pedro.
Vote For Pedro is polling well amongst punters who like their greyhounds to start favourite.
With his campaign managed by astute trainer David Hobby Vote for Pedro has won three on the trot and was the fastest qualifier in last weekend's heats in 37.49.
There are a number of runners lining up to test the favourite’s credentials, especially given he will start from box five, not lest of which is I’m Bouncy Bale.
The John Tonkin-trained I’m Bouncy Bale has secured the key advantage of the red box and has a strong following due to his record breaking run over the 647m at Mandurah two starts back.
Spalding and Triple Oh surprised many by winning their heats at long odds ($8.90 and $13.30 respectively).
Triple Oh has been a particularly consistent since arriving in WA for trainer Brad Keel, winning 5 and placing a further 5 from 15 starts in this state, and a bold showing here won’t surprise.
Trainer Jimmy Lee will be hoping his aspirant, Blue Hammer, can do what John Howard couldn’t in the last federal election and pull off a come from behind triumph.
Blue Hammer is generally slow out of the traps and will give his opponents a head start but will be rattling home at the finish and he shouldn’t be discounted in this contest.
So while Vote For Pedro looks to be ahead of the pack at this stage its too early to claim victory.
