20 March 2008 Elektra Faces Tough Field

The new sign next to the 715m boxes at Cannington declares that the track is the home to the richest staying race in the country – the SKY Channel Galaxy – and many of the early contenders for that Group 1 event will compete in this Saturday’s Prime Trophies Stayers Prelude (2).

The field includes three last start winners not least of which is the ultra-consistent Elektra.

Keith Harding’s kennel star has a superb record over this distance with 10 wins and 5 places from 16 starts.

Of the other greyhounds entering the race with successful last starts, Tiesto broke through for his first win for new trainer Linda Britton while Fallen Zorro skipped away to a seven length victory in his first WA start for visiting Tasmanian trainer Shane Whitney.

Whitney is staying at the property of colorful greyhound identity Paul Smith while in Western Australia.

Smith, a former child actor, was one of the leads in the television production The Henderson Kids but is best known for his role as ‘the fat kid’ in Hey Dad.

Fallen Zorro can expect to improve with a run under his belt.

The David Hobby–trained Oyster Attack should also feature prominently.

Oyster Attack rebounded to top form two starts ago and was a close second to Elektra last weekend.

Abbadale Affair and former South Australian Key Card round out the main chances.
