On Monday 23rd March 2009, RWWA Greyhound Stewards concluded an inquiry into an allegation that disqualified person Ms Belinda McAlpine was residing at premises where greyhounds were being kept. The inquiry had previously been adjourned by Stewards following Ms McAlpine’s failure to attend.
Ms McAlpine failed to attend the resumed inquiry and after consideration, Stewards determined to proceed in her absence in accordance with Local Rule 89 C. As a result, Stewards invoked the provisions of Rule 100 and the twelve (12) month disqualification previously imposed on the 21 August 2008, will be recommenced as from the 24th January 2009, to expire on the 23rd January 2010.
Furthermore, in relation to a previous inquiry, Stewards also inquired into the circumstances surrounding the accommodation provided for greyhounds by Ms McAlpine at her rental property.
After considering evidence tendered by a City of Gosnells Ranger and the owner of the property, Ms McAlpine was charged under Rule 86(q) in that she, after allowing greyhounds entry into her rented house, omitted to maintain it an acceptable level, an act which is detrimental to the image of greyhound racing.
Stewards proceeded on the basis of a plea of not guilty and after deliberating found Ms McAlpine to be guilty as charged.
Ms McAlpine was subsequently disqualified for a period of five (5) years, which is to commence upon the expiry of the current twelve (12) month disqualification.
In consideration of penalty the Stewards took into account:
The five (5) year disqualification will therefore expire on 23 January 2015.
