Top quality chasing continues on Saturday night with three heats of the Schweppes WA Oaks.
Max Julien will head into heat one with a fair degree of confidence after his greyhound Miss Slick scorched around the Cannington track in 30.02 over 530m last weekend – the fifth fastest time ever recorded.
Miss Slick has drawn favourably near the rails and a repeat performance will see her cruise into next weekend’s Group 2 final.
The two interstate greyhounds, Miss Swip and Joop Muse, loom as the major threats.
Miss Swip has raced in WA previously and acquitted herself reasonably well with 2 wins and 2 seconds from 7 starts and has been competitive recently for NSW trainer Wayne Smith.
Victorian Joop Muse comes here boosting a good record in her short career but is not aided by the fact she will start from the ‘visitor’s draw’ out in box 8.
Novelty punters may want to include Zoo Rebel in their quartet selections as the greyhound has finished 4th in 5 out his past 6 starts.
In the second heat Kumar Bale has been racing well since transferring to the kennels of John Tonkin and looks the one to beat while in heat three the Kel Greenough-trained Calandre is the likely favourite.
In the Red Bull Free To All (530m) the early speed battle between Back Tonight (box 1) and Torque Bale (box 2) will determine the result of the race, as whichever one leads should win.
Taylah Monelli (box 3) appears to be the only other runner in contention.
