01 May 2008 Lew Dorsa Heats at Cannington

Greyhounds WA will honour a long time servant of the club with three heats Lew Dorsa Memorial at Cannington on Saturday night.

Dorsa was a profound early influence on industry and set solid foundations for the club’s future as the first managing secretary, a position he held until his untimely passing in 1980.

In the first heat Eye Murunna will clash with 2007 WA Greyhound of the Year Back Tonight.

Both greyhounds have been in very good touch although the Linda Britton-trained Eye Murunna has the advantage of an inside draw while Back Tonight will start from box 8.

Back Tonight jumped well from an outside draw when a runner-up to Kalden Fury last week and will need a similar start to be in contention here.

Kalden Fury comes into the second heat fresh from his FTA win last week and looks to be building back up to his best racing.

The main threat appears to be out wide where Torque Bale, a potential early leader if on song, is lurking.

Bombabo, a winner on Wednesday night, recorded a career best 30.48 two starts ago and has the rails draw while Soul Master has been in good form but both greyhounds face a steep rise in class here.

Heat three appears to be the most open.

Former Perth Cup finalist Kostic Burns has every opportunity to rebound into form from box 1 but Thai Angel and consistent FTA performer Allegro Sun also have claims.

The first race of the meeting commences at 7.05pm with the heats of the Lew Dorsa Memorial starting from 8.35pm.
