An excellent response from the greyhound industry has seen a full field with a reserve drawn to contest the 744m Free To All at Cannington this Saturday night. The event, which has been scheduled as race 3, will have a carryover of $2,075 allocated to kick off the quartet pool.
This will be the first event run over this distance since Saturday 26 July 2003. JEDI LIGHTSABRE set the current 744m track record of 43.95 seconds in the first ever running of a race over the trip on Saturday 31 August 2002. That was more than a year after the Cannington track was upgraded with transition turns which saw most race distances change at the city venue. No greyhound has run under 44.50 in three subsequent events run over Cannington’s longest staying test.
Greyhounds WA will pay an additional $500 in stakemoney to connections should the winner of Saturday night’s unique staying test break the 744m track record.
