03 July 2008 The Winter Cup Heats Up Cannington

The weather might cold but the action on the track is going to be hot at Cannington on Saturday night with four heats of the Peter's Trumpet Winter Cup (530m).

In heat 1 Torque Bale has a golden opportunity to turn the tables on his more illustrious kennelmate Eye Murunna.

Torque Bale is always a tough competitor and as a quick beginner could take full advantage of box 2 while Eye Murunna has drawn awkwardly in 8.

Eye Murunna, third in last month's Queensland Derby, is unbeaten in his last seven starts at Cannington and relegated Torque Bale to second place last weekend.

While their main opposition may be from each other the Linda Britton-trained pair will also need to overcome the consistent Ace That, a chance from box 1.

Miss Slick returns to racing in heat 2 after a short break.

A good thing beaten in her last start Miss Slick looks to have the class over Suspect Action, runner-up in a personal best time of 30.58 last week, and Spring Sensation.

Kalden Fury will be favourite despite a wide draw in heat 3 although all the other runners in the race are capable of winning on their night.

In heat 4 Kostic Burns has drawn the coveted pole where he is yet to be defeated from four previous starts.

The Simon Lee-trained fawn dog has been in fair form over the past couple of months and should take the opportunity to rebound to his best even through the likes of Bear Cat, Dilston Heights and Rudd Mud can't be discounted.

Its all smiles in the Kostic Burns camp after a win. The greyhound should start favourite in Winter Cup heat 4.
