In Western Australia, a limited number of therapeutic substances have been exempted from the provisions of the Prohibited Substances rule - HR. 188A.
Harness Racing LOCAL RULE – LR 188A states:
…the following are also not prohibited substances:
The RWWA Integrity Assurance Committee (IAC) has approved this LOCAL RULE exempting these substances from the Prohibited Substances list. This Local Rule is similar to a national rule AR. 178C. (2) for Thoroughbreds.
The IAC believe that, whenever possible, a consistent approach to the rules should apply to the Western Australian equine racing industry. The IAC made this decision in the best interests of the racing animal and industry participants.
TRAINERS/VETERINARIANS ARE ADVISED THAT THIS IS A WESTERN AUSTRALIAN LOCAL RULE OF RACING ONLY AND THE ABOVE SUBSTANCES ARE STILL RECOGNIZED AS PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES IN OTHER AUSTRALIAN HARNESS RACING STATES.
