Inexperienced five-year-old Sneakyn Down Under, surprisingly beaten by Steuben when a hot favourite at Gloucester Park last Friday, faces a stern test when he meets far stronger opposition in the Mercer Mooney Stakes this week.
However, despite the disadvantage of starting from barrier eight, Sneakyn Down Under will prove very hard to beat over the sprint journey of 1730m.
He led from the outside barrier last week and was not caught until the final stages of the 2536m event. Even though fast beginner Demoralizer is drawn inside of him at No. 6, Sneakyn Down Under should be able to burst to the front in the early stages.
At his most recent run over 1730m, four starts ago, Sneakyn Down Under raced wide early before getting to the front. He sprinted the final 400m in 28.4sec. and won easily at a 1.57.3 rate.
Sneakyn Down Under is on an M0 mark and he will have to buck the odds to beat M14-class star Scruffy Murphy (barrier seven) and the highly-promising M5-class pacer Future Assets.
