Effective 1st July 2008, the current policy whereby the number of runners on a handicap line is restricted to 7-horses will change to further restrict the number of horses on a handicap line to 6-horses.
The change which affects Gloucester Park, Bunbury, Harvey and Pinjarra was made to provide additional room for horses to manoeuvre prior to and after the start, and also reduce the likelihood of interference at the start.
From the 1st July 2008 the relevant policy will state:
Standing start races
| 10.1 | In races at venues where the field size is restricted to 10 runners there shall be a maximum of 5 runners on each handicap mark, provided that; (a) At Collie there shall be a maximum of 5 runners on any line on each handicap mark. (b) At Busselton shall be a maximum of 4 runners on any line on each handicap mark. |
| 10.2 | In races at venues where the field size is restricted to 12 runners there shall be a maximum of 6 runners on each handicap mark. (Amended ROC 12/06/08). |
| 10.3 | All races restricted to 2-year-olds shall be restricted to 10 runners with the number of runners on each handicap mark in accordance with clause 10.1 above. |
Please note that the race programmes in the current Racing Ahead (June/July) for the affected venues may show “Maximum of seven off any mark”, however the maximum will be six.
