Harness
RWWA Stewards on Wednesday 30 August 2017 conducted an inquiry into a report from the ChemCentre in Perth, that Dexamethasone had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from SOHO WALL STREET after competing in and winning Race 6 at Gloucester Park on Friday 16 June 2017. This finding having been verified by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory in NSW.
Evidence was taken from the trainer of SOHO WALL STREET Mr Glenn Elliott, RWWA Senior Investigator Mr Geoff Johnson, RWWA Stewards Compliance Officer Miss Freya Norman, RWWA Racing Industry Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd and Ms Kelly Wilson ChemCentre Analyst.
During the inquiry Mr Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge under HRR190(1) in that he ,as the trainer, presented SOHO WALL STREET to race in Race 6 at Gloucester Park on Friday 16 June 2017, where it raced and finished first, not free of the prohibited substance Dexamethasone.
Stewards have today completed their deliberations in regard to the determination of penalty and imposed a fine of $6,000.
When considering penalty the Stewards took into account as appropriate:
- Mr Elliott’s involvement in Harness racing over a number of years
- The acknowledgement of the offence
- Previous cases involving the presence of therapeutic substances in a horse in a race
- That this was Mr Elliott’s second offence in relation the presentation of horse not free of a prohibited substance, both cases having involved substances of a therapeutic nature.
- The need for deterrence both general and specific
Acting under HRR195 SOHO WALL STREET has been disqualified from winning Race 6 the Gloucester Motel & Restaurant MS (Pace) at Gloucester Park on 16 June 2017 and the placings will be amended accordingly.
