Every year the TAB directs 100% of our profits back into the community across the sectors of racing, community sport and community partnerships. Last year that totalled more than $145million. Like all good WA corporate organisations, we recognise we have a corporate social responsibility to support the community in which we operate.
As well as investing more than $140million to support the racing industry – which creates 33,000 jobs and generates more than $550million in direct expenditure in WA, the TAB also invests in other sectors of our community.
The TAB is proud to be the major partner with a number of respected community groups making a difference in the community, including Riding for Disabled, Fremantle Sea Rescue and Lifeline. In 2014/15 we have also provided financial support to Albany Hospice, Anglicare, Salvation Army, Cerebral Palsy and Honouring Indigenous War Graves.
A proportion of sports wagering is provided to the Department of Sport and Recreation every year to fund community sport. In 2013 about $4.5 million was injected to the TAB’s Sports Wagering Account which supported WA sports ranging from the Australian Commonwealth Games team to Local Government sports officers.
