Trainer Adam Durrant says Assetro will now go to the paddock for a spell and won’t race again in the autumn after her seventh placing in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
The Blackfriars filly, tagged the best horse Durrant has put a saddle on, ends her impressive maiden campaign with two wins and as many placings from her five starts.
Durrant says he has elected to take a conservative approach to protect Assetro’s long term career, ruling out the Group 3 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in two weeks’ time.
“The more runs she is having the more she is looking like a 1400m-1600m horse which we have known all along,” Durrant told Tabradio’s The Sports Daily.
“She is like any horse that when they get those runs under their belts they lose a little bit of that ping.
“She’s probably lost half a second off her sectional time when she was really fresh and not breaking the 35’s
“I’ve spoken to all the owners and we’ve decided to tip her out and give her that time that she needs to grow.
“She is probably going to be racing on the same day next year over 2400m race and we are trying to get her to keep up with our best two-year-olds in shorter races.
“She has done a fantastic job so far and I think it’s time to pull the pin; rather than go to the well too many times and hurt her.
Meanwhile Durrant also believes At The Ready has more to offer, despite his barnstorming last-to-first victory in the Geraldton Cup (2100m).
“I still think he is missing a gear this preparation,” Durrant said.
“I hope with a bit more maturity he can go out and come back a little bit stronger.
“He might not have reached his full potential yet.
“Hopefully he can come back and raise that bar a little bit.
“Maybe he can be a Bunbury-Pinjarra Cup horse next year.
“He has done a good job.”
